HOW TO BUILD A DIY PMA PART #1 (permanent magnet alternator)

Solar and Wind Energy

www.mwands.com how to build your own PMA ,permanent magnet alternator using a 10si or 12si alternator.for wind turbines or hydro power etc. All of the parts can be bought on our website. The rotors shown in this video we no longer endorse or sell. See the link below. thanks Here’s a link to our new pma’s and rotors http Jeff, Missouri Wind And Solar 332 Cobblestone drive Seymour,Mo. 65746 ph#417-935-2260 email jeff@mwands.com Here’s a good link to a wind and solar forum www.otgproducts.com

    @jeffmolly1 why wouldn’t this work as a brushless dc motor? you have 3 phase power coming out of an alternator before rectifying. If you power one of these with 3 phase power I don’t see any reason why? it would not work.

  2. jeffmolly1 says:

    If you use a standard coil from car alternator it would produce about 14 volts. But the wiring in the coil is fat and too heavy to produce the kind of amps that it takes for a wind turbine. Cars turn at higher rpms than wind can. Therefore changing the coil is nessary to produce the maximum amps? that the wind can produse to charging amps for your storage and use.

    how many volts would it produce with the original coil?? Thats an interesting concept run three wires into ? your home and put the diodes there water cooled…

    @jeffmolly1 Im pretty sure it could be used as a motor. if you used it in a 3 phase configuration instead of through the rectifiers. You would have to have a 3 phase motor controller though, and one that worked off of back EMF, since there’s no hall effect sensors to tell it which phase to power when. It would be interesting to? modify it further and add hall effect sensors and sensor magnets to the rotor shaft. A temperature sensor would also be advisable.

    @breakdncr85 could cost you? $150.00

    how much will? this end up costing in the end product

  7. jeffmolly1 says:

    @tcrawfordperformance No? they cannot be used in a car at all. There unregulated voltage and will set your wiring unfire.

    can a PMA still be configured to work in a car or truck. im asking this because i have a nice? stereo system but having more than three batteries can be a little space consuming (not to mention the astheticism). so can it be done???

    @jeffmolly1 That’s a bummer, cause that could be a pretty powerful set up. They do make? brushless controllers, but I will have to see how all that works. The wonders of Youtubing, hehe. Thank you for the quick reply.

  11. jeffmolly1 says:

    @HostileHST no they cannot. you need brushes to act as an? electric motor.
    Jeff

  12. HostileHST says:

    Can these? be used as brushless motors for DIY electric bikes?

    thank you for the videos, where? can i buy the replacement rotor and stotter to put back in ?

  14. crackawise says:

    please dont tell people to throw it away…instead tell? them to recycle it!! good vid!!!

    Dude looks? like tony stark :D

    Thank? you!

    @planetdarwin no it will? not.

    In my country, we use to push a light truck to start a ’77 diesel engine when the batteries are dead, and we use the vehicle without the batteries in daytime only. And in 2002 we acquired a new diesel engine manufactured in Japan; someone borrowed the batteries, and so we started? the engine by pushing the truck just to park it properly during the night. To my surprise all the lights were powered including the head light. The alternator is producing power without the batteries. Is this the PMA?

    wow, amazing!!!! regards? from Panama.

  22. jonathanspindler says:

    His PMA doesn’t have coils behind the magnets. they aren’t electromagnets. They are really powerful magnets. I’m pretty sure his magnets are mounted on metal plates, looks like they are machined, not too hard to make if you have the proper tools to do so! which i don’t ! bummer! I’m just starting to collect all my material together to start my project, waiting for the magnets from Ebay and then i? can go get my rotor machined after i finalized the measurements.

    I have a ? I’m? fabricating an alternator of a very smaller size for a custom project and cuz of the size, I need to make it a PMA for more volts at lower rpm. the ? I have is what are your stator coils and rotors made of (Metals / Materials) and does the rotor have coils under the magnets or is it just metal plates and magnets and what type of magnets? not looking to make the same design just need to know what they are made of so when I fabricate my alternator it will produce the volts I need.

  24. jeffmolly1 says:

    @00773nicolas yes you can?

  25. jonathanspindler says:

    Jeff, just a quick few questions if i may!? I currently have a alternator that i plan on converting to a PMA. i plan on rewinding the stator with new wire, there are 36 slots in total and i’d like to wire it 3 phase, my questions are do i use a delta or wye configuration or something different? also what gauge wire do you suggest i use 18? 20? 22? smaller? now with 36 slots present in the? core i do plan on using 12 magnets? am i on the right track with this setup? Your videos rock dude !!!
